Spires
Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus
Play & Sing Events

Every year, we welcome over 100 musicians to play and sing with Spires Music as we learn a work from scratch in just one day. We rehearse during the morning and afternoon and then, under the guidance of Chorus Director Jack Lovell-Huckle, both the Orchestra and Chorus come together in an informal performance for our friends and family. We've previously tackled works including Brahms' A German Requiem, Handel's Messiah and Schubert's Mass in Ab.
Play & Sing Day: 17 June 2023
Mozart's Requiem
On Saturday 17 June, Spires Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra will be hosting a
Summer Play and Sing day, exploring Mozart’s beautiful Requiem. Do join us.
Our conductor will be Jack Lovell-Huckle, Spires Chorus Director and current CBSO
Assistant Conductor. The orchestra will be led by our professional leader, Alistair
Kennedy.
Registration is from 9:30am, rehearsals starting at 10am.
Day places: £20 (students £5)
The day will end with an informal run through at 4:30pm and we welcome anyone to
come and be our audience, free of charge.
Tea/Coffee will be available during regular breaks for a small charge. Please bring
some lunch. Our now famous afternoon teas will be provided as usual before the final
informal performance.
All we ask is that instrumentalists bring a music stand. Vocal and orchestral scores are
available on the day (Barenreiter, completed by Franz Xaver Sussmayr) with a
returnable deposit £10. Orchestral practice parts are available in advance.
The venue is United Reformed Church, 83 Baginton Rd, Coventry, CV3 6FP where there
is ample free parking and easy access.
